REVIEW: X-Pro2s Processing Speed

Image
One of the key features of the new Fujifilm X-Pro2 is the brand new 24MP X-Trans CMOS III sensor with the X-Processor Pro engine which gives the camera superb image quality and much greater processing speed.   Part of the benefits of the increased processing speed is the X-Pro2s ability to shoot RAW images without the camera buffering, which freezes the operation of the camera for a few seconds while the images are written to the memory card. The X-Pro2 can take the faster UHS II SD cards in slot 1 of the camera's two memory ports and this combined with the X Processor Pro means that with the X-Pro2 set to 8 frames precession the camera can process 27 uncompressed RAW files or 33 lossless compressed RAW files or up to 83 JPEG images before the camera buffers.  The faster cards and processor also means the camera's buffer clears quicker than previous X-Series cameras, meaning the operation of the camera is restored far quicker. I use Sandisk Extr...

VIDEO: Cockenzie Power Station Demolition - The Final Chapter

Image
In September the first stage of the demolition of the decommissioned coal fired power station at Cockenzie along the coast in East Lothian took place. Today (17 December) the second and final stage of the demolition happened when the main building was taken down in a controlled explosion at 2pm. I went along to record the event that will transform this part of the coastline and set up my cameras in the same position as I shot on the 26 September. Here is the video from 17 December And here is the video from 26 September ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY VISITING THE ADVERTISERS ON THIS PAGE By clicking on the adverts you are helping support this blog - thank you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL IMAGES ARE THE PROPERTY OF MACLEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CA...

Seat With A View

Image
I do a lot of flying with my job.  This year I have taken in excess of 80 flights to destinations in Asia, North America, the Middle East and Europe and I never get tired of looking out the window at 38000 feet.  You get some great views and it's something I never want to take for granted. Last Tuesday I flew back into Edinburgh from Qatar and the skies over the Firth of Forth were clear, giving some great views over East Lothian towards Edinburgh. I usually take pictures on one of my Fujifilm X-T1s or the X100 but on this occassion the cameras were in the locker above my head and I decided to use the camera on the iPad Mini that I am typing this blog post on.    The first shot shows Prestonpans, with the remains of the Cockenzie power station at the bottom of the picture.  The second picture is on the approach to the airport and is of Leith Harbour with the bright sunshine bouncing off the water. I have just two more trips to Munich...

VIDEO: Cockenzie Power Station Demolition

Image
Today thousands of people lined the coast here in East Lothian to watch a familiar landmark disappear as the twin chimneys at the Cockenzie Power Station were demolished.  The coal fired station was built in the 1960s and was decommissioned in 2013.  The twin chimneys have been a familiar sight on the East Lothian coast for 50 years but at 12 noon today they were no more. The video was shot on a Fujifilm X-T1 with a XF50-140mm f2.8.  The video was set to full 1080P HD at 60fps so I could slow the video down by 50 percent in post production.  The video show the demolition of the chimneys and the turbine hall in real time and then after 1 minute into the video the demolition is replayed in slow motion. The still images were shot on the second X-T1 at 8fps to capture the chimneys coming down and to also have a before and after shot of the skyline.   The main power station building will be dismantled over the coming months and then the skyli...
