2014 Review: Travel

Image
This year we've traveled to some familiar places as well as a couple for the first time.  Mostly the trips have been for the FIA World Endurance Championship or the European Le Mans Series but we also too personal trips to Skye and the Outer Hebrides and also to Lake Como in Italy. PARIS The first trips of the year were to Paris for regular meetings at the main offices of Le Mans Endurance Management and the launch of the 2014 championship.  This gave me many opportunities to photograph the French capital, sometimes during the day but mainly at night. PARIS 1 :   PARIS 2 : PARIS 3 : PARIS 4 : PARIS 5 MARSEILLES The next trip of note was for the official tests for the launch of the ELMS and WEC at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the South of France.  The was one day where we were able to take a trip to La Ciotat and to the harbour front in Marseilles.   LA CIOTAT : MARSEILLES BRUSSELS In April we visited the Autoworld Museum in the centre o...

Candid Portraits in Mono

Image
This week I have been able to capture some candid portraits at two events.  The first was the John Muir Festival in Dunbar on Easter Monday and the second was the press conference for the FIA World Endurance Championship at Autoworld in Brussels. I prefer to remove the colour from portraits like this to give them a reportage feel.  I suppose this harks back to my days as a newspaper photographer when images like these had a harder, grittier edge in mono.  Of course we used to shoot on film and then develop and print the images ourselves.  For these shots I used Silver Efex Pro 2 software to create the look I wanted, which is much easier than it was in the darkroom. The first four images were taken in Dunbar High Street on Monday during the John Muir Festival (see blog on this event HERE ) The second set of four images were taken during the FIA WEC press conference in Brussels on Wednesday (see blog this event HERE ). All the images we...

Brussels Press Conference

Image
Yesterday was another busy day for the FIA World Endurance Championship as we prepare for the next race at Spa-Francorchamps on the 2/ 3 May.  We traveled to Brussels to hold a press conference at the Autoworld car museum in Brussels, which was attended by 36 Belgian media.   As well as organising the event I was also acting as the official photographer, which gave me another opportunity to put the Fujifilm X-T1 through its paces.  This camera continues to impress and I will do a full initial report after Spa. Here are some of the images from the press launch taken on both the X-T1 and X-Pro1 All images taken on the Fujifilm X-T1 and X-Pro1 + Fujinon 14mm, 35mm and 55-200mm lenses -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BLOG BY CLICKING THE GOOGLE ADVERTS It doesn't cost you anything to click on an advert but we get a small ...
