X-Pro2 Video for First WEC Press Conference of 2016

Image
On Sunday the FIA World Endurance Championship held its first race of the 2016 season, the 6 Hours of Silverstone, in the UK.  It was my first opportunity to shoot a press conference video on the new Fujifilm X-Pro2 as I normally shoot these videos on the X-T1. As usual there were two post race press conferences, the first for the top three overall finishers and the second for the class winners.  The top 3 press conference featured the winning no7 Audi crew of Andre Lotterer, Marcel Fassler and Benoit Treluyer, the second placed crew from Porsche and the third placed crew from Toyota.  Here is a LINK to the video on the official FIAWEC YouTube channel However four hours after the press conference took place the no7 Audi was excluded for failing to pass the post race technical checks. The second press conference featured the winning LMGTE Manufacturer Ferrari and the winning crew of Sam Bird and Davide Rigon, the winning LM...

REVIEW: Nikon D800 Video

Image
The FIA World Endurance Championship race in Sao Paulo has given me another opportunity to use the 1080P HD video function on the Nikon D800.  The facility is great for my role as the Media Delegate for the FIA WEC and I am able to film interviews with the drivers and then stream them on the official website at www.fiawec.com via the Daily Motion FIA WEC page.       The quality of the results are amazing, especially when using the Nikon 50mm f1.4 AF-D lens, which is one of the best lenses for video, or the 17-35mm f2.8 AF-S.   Using the Manfrotto tripod and the ME-1 external microphone the MOV file is downloaded into Microsoft Movie Maker where I edit the file, putting a logo and captions onto the final movie.  I have recently purchased Sony Vegas Pro 12 video editing software but I haven't yet mastered the workflow yet.  Once I have I am sure this much more sophisticated editing suite will enable me to produce more professio...

REVIEW: First Impressions of the X100S Video Function

Image
One of the things I do for the FIA WEC is video interviews with drivers that can be streamed on the website, on the WEC Facebook page and on the championships Daily Motion page.  I usually use the Nikon D800 for this but at Le Mans I filmed an interview with Aston Martin driver Bruno Senna in preparation for the next race in his home city of Sao Paulo in Brazil using the Fujifilm Finepix X100S. The Reasons to Visit Sao Paulo by fiawec The X100 has a video function that takes 10 minute videos in HD (720P).  The X100S also takes 10 minute videos but in full HD (1080P).  Unlike the Nikon D800, the Fujis cannot use an external microphone, which is a real shame.  However with the video with Bruno we went somewhere quiet so the internal stereo mics had the best chance to pick up the interview.   The results are pretty impressive and I wouldn't hesitate to use the Fuji for further video interviews in the future. -----------------------------------...
