VIDEO: Hailes Castle

Image
Wednesday was perfect drone flying weather so I packed the DJI Mavic Pro and headed out to Hailes Castle on the bank of the River Tyne near East Linton (no, not the River Tyne in the North East of England in Newcastle) to shoot the next promo video for the MacLean Photographic workshops. I did several passes of the castle from varying heights and also took some video clips using the new Fujifilm X-H1. On Thursday I was hosting a 'Beaches and Castles' workshop and we decided to head up to Hailes Castle for the afternoon.  Unfortunately the weather had clouded over so we shot long exposure images of the waterfall and some shots of the snowdrops in the trees. All of the shots below were shot on the Fujifilm X-H1 with the 10-24mm f4 or 50-140mm f2.8 lenses. A Winter Walk in Pressmennan Wood

Image
On Wednesday this week it will be four years since we moved into our current home in Dunbar on  Scotland's east coast and we are still discovering new places to visit locally.  Today was another first as we went for a walk in Pressmennan Wood, a Woodland Trust Scotland reserve near Stenton just outside Dunbar. While there has been plenty of snow in the Highlands and further south, East Lothian has not seen any of the white stuff, but it has been VERY cold, with the car showing minus 3 degrees as we headed into the hills outside Dunbar. The sun was low in the sky, as it always is at this time of year, which cast long shadows through the trees. Using the Fujifilm X-E3 I have on test until Tuesday I captured some images along our walk around the frozen lake.  The ice was very thin, you certainly couldn't stand on it, but it did make for some really nice images. I used the 23mm f2, 18mm f2 or the 90mm f2 prime lenses for the images on this page. CLICK HERE ...

Image
2014 was the first full year we have lived and worked in East Lothian and I have put together a video slide show with some the photographic highlights from this part of Scotland.  Some of the images, like this shot of the Dunbar Lifeboat, are previously unpublished. The video lasts 7 minutes and I have used three tracks featuring guitar solos by artists Jason Shaw and Gillicuddy which area available to download on the Free Music Archive website. Here is the video and we hope you enjoy this photographic tour of East Lothian.   Don't forget you can book a Photography Workshop or Tour in East Lothian with MacLean Photographic HERE
