Glass Roof at the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico

Image
On Tuesday during our tour around the historic quarter of Mexico City we stopped for a drink on the terrace of the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico which has some great views over the Zocolo, the main square in the centre of the city. While the view of the square is impressive it is the roof of the hotel that is jaw dropping with the entire glass roof in a multitude of colours with three domes in the middle. Originally built in 1899, the building was home to one of the first department stores in Mexico City, designed with its luxurious Art Nouveau architecture (fashionable in Paris at the time). Today, inside the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico it has been carefully preserved, from the grand staircase and the elevators to the incredible stained glass roof designed by renowned French artisan Jacques Gruber.  The hotel and the Zocolo featured in the opening sequences of the latest James Bond movie 'Spectre' . Looking Back at 2012: March

Image
March saw the first of eight FIA World Endurance Championship events around the globe, with the first taking place at Sebring in Florida.  Flying from Miami airport at the end of the eight day stay gave me the opportunity to visit Key Biscayne and Miami Beach, with its famous art deco architecture. This image is of the Beach Patrol Headquarters building just behind South Beach and is typical of the period architecture of this part of the world.
